Bernard M. S. van Praag is a Dutch economist and econometrician, a pioneer of the empirical measurement of welfare, well-being and happiness, whose 'Leiden School' anticipated modern happiness economics by decades. He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is Jewish.
