The Portuguese Wikipedia describes Benjamin Steinbruch as a Brazilian businessman of Jewish origin. His father Mendel and his uncle Eliezer were Jews of Russian descent born in Rio Grande do Sul who founded the Vicunha group, Latin America's largest textile company. In 1993 Vicunha took a stake in the newly privatised Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional and he became chairman of Brazil's largest steelmaker. He spoke for his family in the creation of São Paulo's Museum of Jewish Immigration, and the Kehilat Israel synagogue was renamed for his parents, Dora and Mendel Steinbruch.
