Axel Kahn was a French geneticist, physician and bioethicist who directed the Cochin Institute and later served as president of the University of Paris Descartes and of the French League Against Cancer (Ligue contre le cancer). He became one of France's most public voices on the ethics of genetics, cloning and medicine. He had documented Jewish paternal ancestry; his father Jean Kahn came from a Jewish family.
