How & why

Rosenfeld was a physicist often called the 'godfather of energy efficiency' for pioneering standards and technologies, such as efficient lighting and building codes, that have saved vast amounts of energy worldwide. Born into a Jewish family in Alabama, he trained under Enrico Fermi and later served on the California Energy Commission; he received the Enrico Fermi Award in 2005. The 'Rosenfeld' unit of electricity savings is named for him.
