How & why

Anderson was an American nuclear physicist and Enrico Fermi's closest collaborator, working with him on the first demonstration of nuclear fission in the United States and on Chicago Pile-1, the world's first self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction, before contributing to the Manhattan Project. He later did research on the internal structure of protons. He received the Enrico Fermi Award in 1982 and was born to a Jewish family.
