How & why

Tauber was an Austrian mathematician who worked in analysis and actuarial mathematics; his 1897 theorem gave rise to a whole class of results known as Tauberian theorems, which recover ordinary convergence from summability under extra conditions and remain central in analysis and number theory. Jewish, he was deported by the Nazis and murdered at the Theresienstadt camp in 1942.
