Alfred Haar was a Hungarian mathematician who introduced the Haar measure, a translation-invariant measure fundamental to analysis on topological groups, and the Haar wavelet, the first and simplest wavelet basis, foundational to modern signal processing. He co-founded an influential mathematics institute at Szeged. He was Jewish.
