Éric Weil was a German-born French philosopher who built a systematic 'philosophy of discourse' placing the effort to understand violence and to achieve reasonable coherence at the center of thought, notably in his 'Logique de la philosophie'. A post-Hegelian Kantian, he taught at Lille, the Sorbonne and Nice. He was Jewish, emigrated from Nazi Germany to France, and was naturalized French in 1938.
