Woody Allen (born Allan Stewart Konigsberg) is an American filmmaker, actor, and comedian who has been a major figure in American entertainment for over six decades.

How & why

Allen wrote and directed 'Annie Hall' (1977), which won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Director and Screenplay, and built one of American cinema's most prolific bodies of comedic and dramatic work. Born Allan Stewart Konigsberg into a Jewish family in the Bronx, New York, Jewish identity and humor pervade his films. He is also a jazz clarinetist and playwright.
