Walter Abraham Jacobs was an American chemist at the Rockefeller Institute who, from 1912, headed a new division of chemotherapy, and with Michael Heidelberger developed the trypanocidal drug Tryparsamide (1919), highly effective against sleeping sickness. His work on the chemistry of natural products laid groundwork for modern chemotherapeutic drug design. He was documented as coming from a Jewish family.
