How & why

Vladislav Khodasevich was a Russian poet and literary critic regarded as one of the finest lyric voices of the emigre generation after the 1917 revolution, spending his later years in Paris. His precise, classically shaped verse and sharp criticism made him a major figure of Russian modernism. Khodasevich had documented partial Jewish ancestry through his mother, who was born to a Jewish family and baptized into Catholicism; his father was Polish Catholic.
