Bert Kalmar was an American lyricist and songwriter who, with composer Harry Ruby, wrote standards and film scores for Tin Pan Alley and Hollywood, including songs for the Marx Brothers such as 'Hooray for Captain Spaulding' and the score of Duck Soup. His songwriting partnership was celebrated in the biopic Three Little Words. He was Jewish.
