Stanley Kubrick

Kubrick was born in the Bronx to a Jewish family of Central European descent (both parents were Jewish, though non-observant). A meticulous auteur, he directed landmark films across genres — 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining — pushing cinematic technique in visual effects, sound and narrative. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers of the twentieth century.
