How & why

Corrsin was an American fluid dynamicist and a master experimentalist of turbulence, whose precise measurements of turbulent mixing, scalar transport and shear flows shaped the modern understanding of the phenomenon; he received the American Physical Society's Fluid Dynamics Prize in 1983. He taught for decades at Johns Hopkins University. He came from a Jewish family in Philadelphia.
