Stanisław Jerzy Lec was a Polish poet and satirist, one of the great aphorists of the twentieth century, whose collection 'Myśli nieuczesane' (Unkempt Thoughts) distilled biting, paradoxical wit about power, freedom and the human condition. Born Baron Stanisław Jerzy de Tusch-Letz into a Jewish family in Lwów, he survived a Nazi labour camp during the Second World War.
