A physician at the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital, Berson worked with Rosalyn Yalow to invent radioimmunoassay, a technique using radioactive tracers to measure minute concentrations of hormones such as insulin in the blood. Born in New York to a Jewish family, he died before Yalow received the Nobel Prize their joint work later earned.
