Simon Ramo was an American physicist and engineer often called the father of the U.S. intercontinental ballistic missile, having led systems engineering for the Atlas ICBM program; he co-founded the aerospace giant TRW and received the National Medal of Science in 1979. He also co-authored a standard graduate text on electromagnetics. Ramo was born into a Jewish family in Salt Lake City.
