Sarra Copia Sulam

Sarra Copia Sulam was a Jewish poet and intellectual of early-modern Venice who ran a literary salon in the Venetian Ghetto, one of the most enduring forums for Jewish–Christian exchange of her time. She wrote sonnets, letters and a Manifesto defending the immortality of the soul against a slanderous accusation, becoming the first Jewish woman to leave a lasting mark as a writer. She was Jewish, from a prominent Venetian Jewish family.
