How & why

Samuel Marshak was a Russian and Soviet poet, translator and children's author, one of the founders of modern Russian children's literature and celebrated for his translations of Shakespeare's sonnets and Robert Burns. Born into a Jewish family in Voronezh, he studied in England and in his youth worked in the Zionist movement and briefly in Ottoman Palestine. He was Jewish.
