How & why

Ruth Dayan (1917-2021) was a Jewish Israeli social activist, daughter of Russian-Jewish immigrants and first wife of Moshe Dayan. In 1954 she founded Maskit, Israel's first fashion house, which gave work to new immigrants and brought the ethnic crafts of Israel's many communities to global couture. We are grateful for her lifelong work uniting craft, livelihood, and cultural preservation.
