Robert Pinsky is an American poet, essayist and translator who served an unprecedented three terms as US Poet Laureate (1997-2000), during which he launched the Favorite Poem Project. His acclaimed verse translation of Dante's 'Inferno' and his own collections made him a central figure in American poetry. He is Jewish.
