How & why
Strand was a poet and essayist who won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for 'Blizzard of One' and served as U.S. Poet Laureate in 1990. Born in Canada and raised largely in the Americas, he was the son of a Jewish father and often reflected on absence, self and mortality in spare, luminous verse.
