Biography

Richard Jeffrey is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — Philosopher of probability and decision theory

How & why

Richard Jeffrey was an American philosopher and logician who developed radical probabilism and 'Jeffrey conditioning' (probability kinematics), a generalization of Bayesian updating for uncertain evidence, alongside foundational work in decision theory. A student of Carnap and Hempel, he taught at MIT, Stanford, Penn and Princeton. Standard biographies do not document a Jewish background, so a Jewish identity is not established for him.
