Pavel Pevzner is a computational biologist at the University of California, San Diego who pioneered the graph-based algorithms behind modern DNA sequence assembly, including the use of de Bruijn graphs for genome reconstruction. In 2018 he received the Paris Kanellakis Award for these foundational contributions. He was born into a Jewish family in Moscow and emigrated from the USSR to the United States.
