How & why

Zukofsky was an American violinist and conductor renowned as a champion of contemporary and avant-garde music, premiering demanding works by composers such as Cage, Crumb and Babbitt. A child prodigy who debuted at Carnegie Hall, he later taught and conducted internationally. He was the son of the Objectivist poet Louis Zukofsky and was born into this Jewish family in Brooklyn.
