Osip Brik was a Russian literary critic and avant-garde theorist, a leading figure of Russian Formalism and of the LEF group, and a close collaborator and champion of the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky. His essays helped define formalist approaches to language and verse. Born to a Jewish family, he was Jewish.
