How & why

Oleg Kagan was a Soviet classical violinist admired for his chamber-music partnerships, notably with cellist Natalia Gutman (his wife) and pianist Sviatoslav Richter, and for his interpretations of Mozart and Beethoven. He was Jewish, born in the Soviet Far East, and studied in Riga and Moscow under David Oistrakh. His career was cut short by early death from cancer at 44.
