Norman Taurog was born in Chicago to Jewish parents, Arthur Jack Taurog and Anita Goldsmith. He won the Academy Award for Best Director in 1931 for Skippy and held the record as the youngest winner for more than half a century. He directed Boys Town with Spencer Tracy, several Martin and Lewis comedies and nine Elvis Presley films — more than 180 pictures in all.
