Norman Manea

Manea is a Romanian-born author widely regarded as one of the foremost writers of the Romanian diaspora, whose fiction and essays, including 'The Hooligan's Return', grapple with totalitarianism, exile and memory. A Jew deported as a child to a Transnistria concentration camp during the Holocaust, he later left Ceaușescu's Romania and settled in the United States. His work bears witness to the century's catastrophes.
