Nicole Krauss

Nicole Krauss was born in New York in 1974 to a British Jewish mother and an American Jewish father whose own parents, from Hungary and from Slonim, met in Israel before emigrating to New York. Her four novels — Man Walks into a Room, The History of Love, Great House and Forest Dark — have been translated into thirty-five languages, and The History of Love (2005) is the best known of them. She won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award in 2011 and the Wingate Literary Prize in 2022, and in 2021 was the first recipient of the Inspiration Award of the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature. Jewish history, memory and the limits of language are the recurring subjects of her fiction.
