Natalia Ginzburg, née Levi, was one of the most important Italian writers of the twentieth century, author of the memoir Family Sayings (Lessico famigliare) and novels of quiet moral force. Her husband, the anti-Fascist Leone Ginzburg, was murdered by the Nazis, and she later served in Italy's parliament. Her father was Jewish (the Levi family), a heritage central to her life and writing.
