Murray Koffler was born in Toronto in 1924 to Romanian Jewish immigrant parents and inherited two pharmacies at eighteen when his father died. He turned them into Shoppers Drug Mart, the chain that made the pharmacist an owner-partner rather than an employee, and co-founded Four Seasons Hotels with Isadore Sharp. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and founded the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews.
