Dresselhaus, an MIT physicist known as the 'Queen of Carbon Science,' transformed understanding of the electronic properties of carbon and laid groundwork for carbon nanotubes, fullerenes and graphene. She received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Kavli Prize. Born to Polish Jewish immigrant parents in the Bronx, she was Jewish.
