How & why
Svetlov (born Motl Sheinkman) was a Soviet poet and playwright best known for the lyric 'Grenada' and other verse that became popular songs, blending revolutionary romanticism with lyrical warmth. Born to a Jewish family in Yekaterinoslav, he was among the leading Soviet poets of the 1920s-1930s. He later received the Lenin Prize for his work.
