Meshullam ben Solomon da Piera was one of the most original Hebrew poets of 13th-century Catalonia, associated with the circle of mystics around Nahmanides in Girona and prominent in the anti-Maimonidean controversy. A Jewish poet, he broke with the conventions of Andalusian Hebrew verse in both language and outlook. Some fifty of his poems survive, prized for their distinctive voice.
