Mel Tormé

Mel Tormé was an American jazz singer, composer, drummer and arranger nicknamed "The Velvet Fog" for his smooth voice. In 1945 he co-wrote "The Christmas Song" ("Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire") with Bob Wells, which became one of the most recorded holiday standards; it was later added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. He was Jewish, born to Russian Jewish immigrant parents in Chicago.
