Max Rostal was a violinist and one of the twentieth century's most influential violin teachers, training a generation of soloists and quartet players in Britain, Germany, and Switzerland. Dismissed from his Berlin professorship by the Nazis for being Jewish, he rebuilt his career in exile in London. He was Jewish.
