Max Newman is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Led the design of the Colossus code-breaking computer.
Newman was a British mathematician and codebreaker who, at Bletchley Park, conceived the machine methods that led to the Colossus computers used to break the German Lorenz cipher, and afterward founded a leading computing laboratory at Manchester. His father was a German-Jewish immigrant, giving him Jewish paternal ancestry. In topology he also shaped Alan Turing's thinking.
