Riesz was a Hungarian-born mathematician, long a professor at Lund, who worked in analysis, number theory and mathematical physics; the Riesz-Thorin interpolation theorem, Riesz means and his work on the Dirac equation and Clifford algebras bear his influence. He was the younger brother of Frigyes Riesz. He came from a Jewish family.
