How & why
Austrian-French novelist, essayist and psychologist. A former communist who broke with the party, he is best known for the trilogy 'Like a Tear in the Ocean' and received the 1983 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Born to a Hasidic Jewish family in Galicia, he was Jewish, and his work grappled deeply with totalitarianism and Jewish identity.
