Lucien Lévy-Bruhl

Lévy-Bruhl was a French philosopher and anthropologist whose studies of the mental life and belief systems of non-Western societies influenced early ethnology and the sociology of knowledge. He came from a French Jewish family and taught at the Sorbonne. Though his notion of 'primitive mentality' was later revised, his comparative approach to how societies think left a lasting mark.
