How & why
Leslie Epstein is an American novelist and, for decades, director of the creative writing program at Boston University. His best-known novel, King of the Jews, is a searing fiction set in a Nazi-era ghetto Jewish council. Epstein is Jewish, the son of screenwriter Philip G. Epstein (co-writer of Casablanca) and father of baseball executive Theo Epstein; Jewish history and identity run through his fiction.
