How & why

Leonard Rosenman was an American Jewish film and television composer who brought modernist concert-hall techniques into Hollywood scoring, working on films such as East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause. Born to a Jewish family in Brooklyn, he won two Academy Awards, for adapting the scores of Barry Lyndon and Bound for Glory. His willingness to use dissonance and avant-garde methods expanded the vocabulary of American film music.
