Lee Adams is an American lyricist best known for his long partnership with composer Charles Strouse, with whom he wrote Bye Bye Birdie (1960) and Applause (1970), winning Tony Awards for both. His witty, character-driven lyrics helped define the Broadway musical of the 1960s. Born Leopold Richard Adams in Mansfield, Ohio, he comes from a Jewish family.
