Klaus Mann

Klaus Mann was a German writer and novelist, son of Thomas Mann, best known for 'Mephisto' (1936), a searing portrait of an artist who collaborates with the Nazi regime, and for his anti-fascist exile journalism. He was of partial Jewish ancestry through his mother, Katia Mann (née Pringsheim), from a prominent assimilated Jewish family. An early and outspoken opponent of Nazism, he fled Germany, took U.S. citizenship, served in the U.S. Army, and wrote in both German and English.
