Julius Rosenwald was an American businessman who transformed Sears, Roebuck & Co. into the largest retailer of its era. As a philanthropist he partnered with Booker T. Washington to fund the 'Rosenwald Schools', helping build more than 5,000 schools for Black children across the segregated American South. He was the son of German-Jewish immigrants and a leading figure of American Jewish philanthropy.
