How & why

Julian Sitkovetsky was a Soviet violinist regarded as one of the great virtuosos of his generation, a prize-winner at the Wieniawski and Queen Elisabeth competitions, whose career was cut short when he died of cancer at 32. He was Jewish and part of a distinguished musical family: his wife was pianist Bella Davidovich and their son is the violinist-conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky.
