How & why

Julia Garner is Jewish, as her mother is: Tamar Gingold, a therapist who had been an actress and comedian in Israel, and whose Hebrew Garner understands from hearing it at home. She won three Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for Ruth Langmore in Ozark, and was nominated again for the title role of Inventing Anna. Her films include Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, in which she plays Shalla-Bal. After the attacks of 7 October 2023 she signed an open letter from Creative Community for Peace calling for the release of all the hostages.
