Johanna Martzy was a Hungarian violinist, born in Romania, trained under Jenő Hubay in Budapest, whose small but revered body of recordings — especially her Bach and Schubert — attained near-legendary status among collectors. A Jew, she and her husband fled the 1944 Nazi occupation of Hungary and were interned in Austria before she rebuilt an international career after the war.
