Jerome Lawrence (born Jerome Lawrence Schwartz) was an American playwright who, with his partner Robert E. Lee, wrote enduring Broadway works including 'Inherit the Wind,' a dramatization of the Scopes trial defending free thought, and 'Auntie Mame.' Together they co-founded the American Playwrights Theatre. He was born to a Jewish family.
